Maple Bourbon Smash

A light and refreshing bourbon smash to kick off the weekend without weighing you down too much before the fun starts! The slight kick of maple syrup sweetens things up and the fresh citrus complements the vanilla notes from the bourbon. Cheers!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • ounces orange juice
  • ½ ounce lemon juice
  • 1 ounce maple syrup
  • 3-5 dashes Angostura bitters
  • ice
  • ounces seltzer water chilled
  • 1 orange peel

Instructions

  • In your glass, combine the bourbon, orange juice, lemon juice, maple syrup, bitters, and stir
  • Top your glass off with ice, almost to the rim.
  • Pour on the chilled seltzer water and give it a light stir.
  • Take a long strip of the orange peel and trim it with a knife so it has straight edges. Hold the peel over the cocktail and twist it firmly to express the oils in to the glass.
  • Add the twisted orange peel to the glass and enjoy!

Notes

To create the orange curl, slice a sliver of the orange rind using a peeler. Trim the edges to clean it up into a perfect rectangle.
After rolling the orange curl, twist it and rub it on the rim of the glass for extra lingering citrus aroma and flavor
I use flavored seltzer water (grapefruit) to add a bit more citrus flavor. Experiment with different flavors for slight variations to the recipe.
