Servings: 8 to 10 corn dogs

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp chives chopped
  • 6 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup milk

Instructions

  • Line the air fryer with parchment paper. Have 8 wooden skewers ready.
  • Add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and chives to a mixing bowl. Whisk it to blend it well.
  • Stir in the egg, milk, and melted butter. Let the batter sit for 5 to 10 minutes to absorb the moisture. It will get a little thicker.
  • Dry the hot dogs off with a paper towel. Then, Insert a wooden skewer halfway into the end of each hot dog.
  • Dip the hot dogs into the batter. Twirl them around to coat all the sides of the hot dogs.
  • Place the hot dogs in the air fryer, spacing them at least ½ inch apart. Spray them with oil if desired.
  • Set the air fryer to 370°F and cook the corn dogs for 10 to 12 minutes or until brown and crispy. You may need to cook them in batches if they don't all fit in the basket.

Notes

Fit Your Air Fryer

If you have a small air fryer, you may need to cut the hot dogs in half and cut the skewers down to fit the size of your air fryer.

Leave Space Between Corn Dogs

Leave plenty of space between each corn dog. This will help them to cook evenly and get crispy.

Turn If Needed

You may need to flip the corn dogs halfway through the cooking time to get all sides crispy.

Choose Flavorful Hot Dogs

Use high-quality hot dogs for better flavor. I like to use all-beef hot dogs. You can also substitute other types of franks or sausages.

Making Mini Corn Dogs

Make mini corn dogs by cutting your hot dogs to bite-size pieces before dipping them in the batter.

Let The Batter Rest

Give the batter the full 5 to 10 minutes to hydrate before dipping. Pat the hot dogs dry so the coating has a better surface to cling to.
